Brežice Water Tower

    The water tower is the most well known landmark of Brežice, visible from afar. It invites you to the town that was known as an important trading town for centuries. The tower was built in 1914 in order to provide the town with water. It is 46 metres high and mostly round. There is an octagonal reservoir on top, placed on sixteen brackets. The tower is adorned with three small balconies. It is based on the ruins of the town defence walls.  Apart from the water tower in Kranj, built in 1911, the Brežice Water Tower is the only example of a water tower from those times in Slovenia and is a proof of an interesting water supply solution for lowland areas. It operated through a power plant until 1983 and today is the landmark of Brežice.

    The water tower is the most recognisable landmark of the city. It vertical line is visible from afar and invites you to the city which was regarded as an “important market town” for several centuries.

    The water tower was built in 1914 as a part of the city's water supply system. It is 46 metres high and mostly round with an octagonal reservoir sitting at the top supported by sixteen consoles.

    Apart from the water tower in Kranj, built in 1911, the Brežice Water Tower is the only example of this kind of building from that time in Slovenia and demonstrates an interesting water supply solution for lowland areas. Powered by a power plant, it was in operation until 1983, while today it invites visitors to Brežice from afar.

    After a thorough renovation (2021-2022), it is now open to all visitors from November 26, 2022.

    The tour is guided and reservations are required.
