Brežice are platinum Slovenia Green destination
Our destination, Brežice, signed the Green Policy of Slovenian Tourism in 2018 and thus joined the Green Scheme of Slovenian Tourism. After a long evaluation process, we obtained the Slovenia Green Silver label, which represented an important step towards the recognition of our sustainability efforts and the development of green tourism in the region. The labels that a destination can receive are bronze, silver, gold, and platinum.
In 2022, the evaluation process was repeated, and we were awarded the highest label — Slovenia Green Platinum — as the second destination in Slovenia to achieve this recognition.
What is the Green Scheme?
The Green Scheme of Slovenian Tourism is a national program and certification scheme, operating under the umbrella brand SLOVENIA GREEN:
- It brings together all efforts for the sustainable development of tourism in Slovenia,
- offers destinations and providers concrete tools for assessing and improving their sustainable practices,
- and promotes these green efforts through the Slovenia Green brand.
A comprehensive system for promoting sustainable tourism
The Slovenia Green Tourism Scheme is a comprehensively designed system for promoting the development of sustainable tourism in Slovenia. The scheme, aimed at increasing the competitiveness, quality, and innovativeness of Slovenian tourism, is based on the European Tourism Indicator System (ETIS) and the global GSTC tool, which allows comparisons with green destinations around the world.
Today, the scheme brings together a wide range of destinations, accommodations, parks, restaurants, agencies, attractions and beaches that have successfully obtained the Slovenia Green label.
More than just a project
A green destination is not a project, a task or the responsibility of the tourism organization alone. It is something that can only be achieved through the cooperation of all stakeholders in the destination, including those who live there. It is of utmost importance that the destination is, first and foremost, pleasant and welcoming for everyone who works and lives in it. Only then will it be the same for the people who visit.
