Istenič No 1. brut is a prestigious blend of 60% Chardonnay, 30% Rumeni Plavec, and 10% Pinot Noir, produced only in the finest vintages. The sparkling wine impresses with its freshness and elegant notes of lemon zest, poached pear, and toasted bread developed during three years of ageing on the lees. It is characterized by long-lasting, fine bubbles.
An excellent aperitif, it also pairs beautifully with smoked fish starters.

Bubbles are at the heart of the Istenič family story. Their love for sparkling wine began half a century ago, long before sparkling wines became a sensation. After graduating in oenology, Janez Istenič began his career in a state winery in former Yugoslavia. His fascination with sparkling wines reached its peak during a study visit to France, where he discovered the tradition of Champagne production.
Upon returning home, he recognized the similarity between his father-in-law’s vineyards and those in Champagne. With personal savings, he paved the way as the first private producer of sparkling wine in Slovenia. In 1968, both his first wine and his daughter were born – and he gave them both the beautiful name Barbara, marking the beginning of a remarkable family legacy.
