Who are Brkovi?
Brkovi are an alternative punk–folk band from Zagreb, active since 2004. Their breakthrough came in 2007 when singer Shamso69 (Vedran Pehar) joined the group — the author of most of their songs. With him, the band developed its signature style, PunkFolkWellness – a unique blend of punk, rock, turbo-folk, and at times even metal and reggae.
In 2009, they released their first major album PunkFolkWellness, which propelled them into the spotlight. It was soon followed by Društvo brkatih mladića, which brought the band growing recognition across the countries of the former Yugoslavia. Facebook and YouTube played a major role in spreading their music, helping them quickly reach a large and loyal audience.
To date, Brkovi have released eight studio albums and performed hundreds of concerts across Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Slovenia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Romania, England, Ireland, Canada, and many other countries. In 2016, they received the Performer of the Year Award from Belgrade’s Radio 202, and their 2021 vinyl collection Najveći hitovi 2009–2019 sold out in record time.
Today, Brkovi are considered one of the most popular and explosively energetic live bands in the Balkans — with millions of YouTube views and a devoted fanbase that knows every chorus by heart.
