As a Slovenia Green Platinum destination, we are committed to raising awareness about the importance of protecting the natural environment and using resources responsibly.
One of the greatest challenges of modern tourism is the carbon footprint caused by transportation and other activities related to visiting destinations. The largest share of tourism’s carbon footprint comes from visitor transport—by car, bus, or plane. While we are grateful for every visitor who chooses to come to our region, we also recognize the responsibility we have toward the environment.
That is why we have taken a concrete and symbolic step: we have launched a campaign to collect voluntary contributions for tree planting.
Why trees?
Trees are our natural allies in the fight against climate change:
They absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, reducing greenhouse gases,
They cool the environment and mitigate the effects of heatwaves,
They provide shade and shelter for people and animals,
They clean the air, acting as natural filters,
They enrich the landscape and improve overall quality of life.
With each new tree planted, we reduce the environmental impact of tourist transport and contribute to a healthier, more pleasant space for both living and visiting.
How can you take part?
At the Tourist Information Center in Čatež ob Savi, located within the Terme Čatež complex, we have placed a special box for voluntary contributions. All collected funds will be used to purchase and plant trees throughout our destination. The trees will be planted by local contractors, in cooperation with the municipality and public institutions.
Since we measure the carbon footprint of our destination—especially that caused by tourist transport—if visitors do not offset their own emissions, we will do it on their behalf—thanks to your support and participation. This approach allows us to stay true to sustainability standards while raising awareness among visitors and involving the local community.
Together, we can help decarbonize tourism, protect the environment, and preserve nature for future generations.
Together we plant. Together we reduce. Together we create a greener future.
