In our surroundings, invasive alien plants are appearing more and more frequently, threatening the natural balance, human health, and the local economy. These are species not naturally present in our environment, but due to their characteristics, they spread rapidly, displacing native plants and altering the appearance and functioning of ecosystems.
The most widespread species in the Municipality of Brežice include:
- common ragweed (Ambrosia artemisiifolia),
- Japanese knotweed (Fallopia japonica),
- goldenrod (Solidago canadensis),
- Himalayan balsam (Impatiens glandulifera),
- annual fleabane (Erigeron annuus).
We therefore urge all residents to observe their surroundings carefully and report any sightings of alien plant species to the relevant services.
