European Mobility Week

evropski-teden-mobilnosti-3619.jpg

For the 14th year in a row, the Municipality of Brežice will organize activities as part of European Mobility Week. This year’s project is financially supported by the Ministry of Infrastructure and the Ministry of the Environment. Together with local associations, public institutions, and businesses, we will once again prepare activities for all age groups.

Workshops for Seniors “Gibam se” (“I’m Active”) and “Nordic Walking”

Together with the Brežice Health Promotion Center (ZD Brežice), we will organize a workshop called “Gibam se,” where participants will have guided exercise sessions twice a week throughout September. Before and after the workshop series, participants will receive free fitness testing to assess each individual’s progress. Every participant will also receive an exercise diary to record daily physical activity. The purpose of this workshop is to encourage seniors to be more active for better well-being. The workshops will take place every Tuesday and Thursday.

We will also organize a “Nordic Walking” workshop, which will be held every Monday in September at 8:00 a.m. Participants will learn the basics of Nordic walking and the proper use of trekking poles. Both workshops will take place on the plateau of the Brežice football stadium.

To facilitate organization, advance registration for both workshops is required at: ckz@zd-brezice.si.

Pešbus

“Pešbus” is a form of active mobility to school, where children walk to school on a pre-planned route according to a set schedule. Participants receive a card acting as a “ticket,” and each time they complete a “ride,” they get a stamp. The most active participants will receive practical prizes. In the Municipality of Brežice, three primary schools—Artiče, Brežice, and Cerklje ob Krki—will take part. The activity will run from Monday, September 13, to Friday, September 24, 2021.

Puppet Shows for Preschoolers

The youngest participants in traffic are certainly preschool children, who enter traffic with their first walks. Therefore, in each kindergarten, we will prepare puppet shows on the topic of road safety and the importance of sustainable mobility.

“Commuting to Work in a Sustainable Way”

A novelty this year is the activity “V službo na trajnostni način,” encouraging employees of companies and public institutions in Brežice to commute to work sustainably—without using a car—during European Mobility Week (ETM). Interested companies are invited to join the campaign and encourage their employees to use sustainable mobility. Each company appoints a coordinator who keeps track of employees’ activities. The most active participants will receive practical prizes. The activity will take place from Monday, September 13, to Friday, September 24, 2021.

Amateur Photo Contest

From June until September 3, 2021, an amateur photo contest on the theme of sustainable mobility is taking place. Citizens over the age of 14 can enter by using their mobile phone to photograph a person or an object in any way connected to sustainable mobility. A professional panel will evaluate all submissions. The best photos will be displayed at a photo exhibition opening on Thursday, September 16, 2021, and the authors will receive practical prizes.

Treasure Hunt

This fun game was developed during the international project “Stavi na zdravje” (“Bet on Health”) to promote physical activity and imagination. Participants will explore the streets of Brežice and discover local landmarks. To join, you need a smartphone and free registration on the betonhealth.eu website. Through the app, participants will receive instructions to find each landmark, where a fun challenge awaits. After completing all tasks, a surprise is in store.

Advance registration is required at: damjan.zerjav@brezice.si.

The treasure hunt can take place any day from September 13 to 25, 2021, weekdays from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Cycling Along the Sava River

Together with the municipalities of Radeče, Sevnica, and Krško, we will once again hold the traditional cycling event From Radeče to Brežice, also known as Cycling Along the Sava River, on Saturday, September 18, 2021. Participants will take a free train ride to Radeče, from where an organized ride along the Sava to Brežice (with stops in between) will follow. Participants will receive practical prizes. Advance registration is required at: damjan.zerjav@brezice.si.

Family Cycling Marathon

In cooperation with the Brežice Sports Association, we are organizing a family cycling event that participants complete individually along a predetermined route. It starts and ends at Terme Paradiso in Dobova, leading to the Jasa Zoo and back. Participants will receive practical prizes.

The cycling event will take place on Sunday, September 19, 2021.

Information and registration: info@sportbrezice.si or by phone at +386 41 781 207 (Jaka Lenart).

Hikes with Lojze Ogorevc

Walking is also a form of sustainable mobility. Together with the creator of the “Bosonogi pohod” (“Barefoot Hike”), Lojze Ogorevc, we will organize two hikes this year. First, a family hike to Špiček on Sunday, September 19, 2021, starting at 9:00 a.m. at Pišece Castle. The bravest participants can choose to hike barefoot.

Then on Wednesday, September 22, 2021, at 9:00 a.m., departing from the parking lot at the Motel Čatež rest area, we’ll hold a Barefoot Hike to Šentvid. Naturally, shod hikers are also welcome and can hike along the energy trail.

For more information and registration: lojze.ogorevc@gmail.com or phone +386 40 881 146.

“Mayors at the Wheel” (Župani za volani)

The principles of sustainable mobility are key to optimizing and organizing free transportation for seniors in our municipality. As every year, the #ŽupaniZaVolani campaign will be supported by the Mayor of the Municipality of Brežice, Ivan Molan, Deputy Mayor Mila Levec, and Acting Director Patricia Čular, who will drive individuals who have no other means of transport to run their errands. The campaign will take place on Monday, September 20, 2021, according to a set schedule.

Car-Free Day

On Tuesday, September 21, 2021, we will once again close Cesta prvih borcev between the municipal administration building and the Church of St. Lawrence. Together with our partners, we will set up skill courses, educational workshops, and creative corners on the closed road for primary school children in the Municipality of Brežice. Instead of the usual traffic noise, the street will be filled with children learning about sustainable mobility and enjoying an active day outdoors.
