Celebrating the Slovenian Cultural Holiday in Brežice

Praznovanje 8. februarja v Brežicah

The Slovenian Cultural Holiday is an opportunity not only to commemorate culture, but to truly experience it. This year, on Sunday, 8 February 2026, you are invited to the Posavje Museum Brežice, where the holiday will be marked in an international, creative, and connecting spirit.

Brežice Castle will, for one afternoon, become a meeting point of stories, knowledge, and skills that transcend national borders. Visitors of all generations can look forward to free museum admission, guided tours, an international presentation of intangible cultural heritage, and an evening musical highlight that will symbolically connect four European countries.

Holiday Programme – Sunday, 8 February 2026

13:00–18:00
– free admission to the Posavje Museum Brežice

13:00–17:00

International Event: INTANGIBLE HERITAGE OF FOUR COUNTRIES

16:00

The central afternoon event will focus on intangible cultural heritage, which visitors will experience in a modern, digital, and at the same time very personal way. Presentations and workshops will connect Slovenia, Bulgaria, and Croatia, demonstrating how tradition can be preserved with the help of new technologies.

Individual presentations and workshops:

Digital Twins of Old-Time Crafts – 3D and VR Presentation
A project by the Regional Open-Air Ethnographic Museum Etar (Bulgaria), presenting ancient crafts through digital twins, 3D models, and virtual reality. Visitors will discover how modern technology contributes to preserving knowledge passed down through generations.

Blacksmithing Craft – Božidar Kopun (Croatia)
A presentation of living blacksmithing heritage from Zagorsko Selo (Museums of Hrvatsko Zagorje). As one of the oldest crafts, blacksmithing will be showcased through the work of a master craftsman, with the sound of metal and fire transporting visitors to a time when the forge was the heart of the community.

Wooden Toys – Ivana Šuštić (Croatia)
A workshop on making and painting traditional wooden toys from Marija Bistrica. Visitors will learn how simple materials, imagination, and manual skills create toys that carry the story of a place and its people.

Paper Flowers – Brigita Heberle (Slovenia)
A creative workshop on making paper flowers, a distinctive element of the folk heritage of the Posavje region.

Beeswax Candles – Volovec Beekeeping (Slovenia)
A workshop on making candles from beeswax, combining beekeeping knowledge, a sustainable relationship with nature, and traditional forms of handicraft.

Musical Highlight of the Holiday

Concert admission: adults €15, children and seniors €10

The festive atmosphere will be further enriched by the presence of the Famous Women and Men of the Posavje Region, whose historical costumes will add a special charm to the Sunday afternoon.
