An increase in the share of foreign tourists and a rise in arrivals outside the peak tourist season.
According to data from the Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia, Brežice was visited by nearly 212,000 tourists in 2024, representing a 5% increase compared to the previous year. In total, they generated 667,563 overnight stays, marking a 3% growth compared to 2023. Approximately 90% of all overnight stays were recorded within the largest tourist complex, Terme Čatež.
Domestic visitors contributed 41% of all overnight stays, while international guests accounted for 59%, indicating a return to the pre-pandemic balance between domestic and foreign tourists. The highest number of foreign visitors came from Croatia (over 70,000 overnight stays), followed by guests from Italy, the Netherlands, Austria, and Germany. Among all tourist markets, Germany recorded the highest growth compared to 2023, with a 20% increase in arrivals and a 31% increase in overnight stays.
The average length of stay for tourists in Brežice remains high at 3.15 days, exceeding the Slovenian average of 2.56 days in 2024. The highest number of arrivals was still recorded during the summer months, particularly in July and August. However, there was also a significant increase in tourist arrivals outside the peak season, with a 26% rise in February, 50% in March, 43% in May, and 16% in November compared to the same periods in 2023. These figures indicate successful efforts in extending the tourist season, a goal that the local tourism board has been actively working on by enhancing off-season offerings.
In terms of overnight stays among Slovenian municipalities, Brežice continues to rank 6th, just behind Ljubljana, Piran, Bled, Kranjska Gora, and Bohinj, while maintaining the top position among spa municipalities.
