Hike up Šentvid and the Čatež Energy Trail

A circular trail with 15 energy points, the small church of St Vitus at the top, and a view that reaches all the way to the Alps on a clear day.

The Čatež Energy Trail is an approximately nine-kilometre-long circular path that takes you from Terme Čatež along the Sava embankment and through the picturesque village of Čatež ob Savi to the top of Šentvid. The walk takes about three hours, and the path is gentle enough for families with a basic level of fitness to manage.

A trail with a special energy

A special feature of the trail is the 15 energy points or vortices, where you can stop, take a breath, and see if you can feel their power. Locals say that for the best effect, you need to breathe correctly, find your calm, and just let go. In summer, it’s not unusual to come across hikers heading to the top completely barefoot.

The view from Šentvid

At the top, you’ll be greeted by the little church of St Vitus and a view that makes all the effort worthwhile. The Krško–Brežice plain, with the Sava and Krka rivers, stretches out below you, and on a clear day, you can see all the way to the Kamnik–Savinja Alps. It’s the kind of view that surprises almost every hiker, and the reason why so many people return to Šentvid throughout the year.

Good to know

The easiest place to start the trail is at the TIC at Terme Čatež. Pop on some comfortable hiking shoes, take some water and a snack, and enjoy a well-earned rest at the summit. Combined with a dip in the thermal baths when you get back, it makes for the perfect active family day out.
