The only remaining operational river ferry on the Sava has been sailing since 1885 and boasts more than 130 years of ferryman tradition.
Some experiences are precious precisely because they are the last of their kind. The river ferry at Mostec is the only remaining operational river ferry on the Sava River in Slovenia and has been sailing at this spot since 1885.
An experience powered by the river
The ride between Mostec and the bank near Terme Čatež takes only a few minutes, but it is an experience that children and adults will remember for a long time. The ferryman steers the vessel into the current, the river does its work, and passengers enjoy a quiet voyage observing the banks, the birds, and the water flowing beneath the deck. Simple, authentic, and completely different from anything modern transport has to offer.
Ferrymen’s stories
The river ferry is managed by the Mostec Ferry and Tourism Association, which preserves the town’s more than 130-year-old ferryman tradition. During the voyage, the ferrymen love to tell stories about life by the river and the times when the river ferry was the only connection between the two banks. By prior arrangement, they can also prepare a small snack on board for groups.
Good to know
The river ferry operates all year round, provided the water level of the Sava allows it. The experience is suitable for all ages and pairs perfectly with a visit to the village of Mostec or a walk along the river. For schedules and reservations, please contact TIC Brežice.
