The way of the Cross is located along the forest path leading from the parish church of St. George in Čatež ob Savi to the viewpoint by the church of St. Vitus. This route, known as “through Hruševje”, was once used by children from highland villages travelling to the town Brežice or to service in Čatež. It was a detour to avoid the longer route through Cerina.
Fourteen station of the Passion of Jesus is the work of artist Vlado Cencel, who created these wooden sculptures with a chainsaw.
It encourages walkers to reflect on life’s challenges, provides a place to pray, or it simply adds a touch of culture to their walk. Each Station of the Cross has a name and a short prayer, purpose, and appeal for the walker to whom or what he can think of at a given moment.
