The Pilgrimage Church of St. Roch
| Address | Cesta bratov Milavcev 2, 8250 Brežice |
The Pilgrimage Church of St. Roch, built in memory of the plague, is a quality example of rural sacral architecture from the late Baroque Classicism period, constructed in 1764. It is attributed to Lovrenc Prager. Its predecessor is mentioned in written sources from 1658 and was dedicated to the Assumption of Mary. Externally, the church is a rather simple building with a temple-like facade and a bell tower above it, while the interior reveals a centralizing tripartite design with a Czech cap above the central aisle. In the altar area of the presbytery, there is a fresco of the Assumption of Mary, painted by Matija Schiffer in the early 19th century. The church occasionally hosts events, primarily concerts.
