The Church of St. Gertrude (Sv. Jedrt) in Pavlova Vas
| Address | Pavlova vas, 8255 Pavlova vas |
The Church of St. Gertrude (Sv. Jedrt) in Pavlova Vas is a subsidiary church of the Parish of Pišece, dedicated to Saint Gertrude of Nivelles. Built in 1594, it is considered the oldest church in the parish. Situated in the northern hamlet of the village at an elevation of 476 meters, it stands along the road leading into the Orliško Hills, towards Kerinov Cross, where paths diverge toward Osredek pri Podsredi or the Holy Mountains.
Architecturally, the rectangular chancel with a semicircular window is particularly notable, marking the oldest, likely medieval, section of the building. Over time, the church underwent several expansions, including the heightening of the bell tower in the 19th century. The nave was later extended to align seamlessly with the bell tower.
During restoration work in 1988, a Gothic side entrance on the southern side of the nave was uncovered. Originally a chapel, the church was expanded with a nave and the current bell tower. The roof, facade, and bell tower were renovated in 1988, alongside the restoration of the nearby Chapel of St. Anthony of Padua. The chapel was given a new facade and a copper roof. Interior renovations of the church are ongoing, including the addition of a new bell.
This historic church and its accompanying chapel are significant landmarks, reflecting both the spiritual and architectural heritage of the region.
