Church of St. Michael, Cerina
| Address | Cerina 9, 8250 Brežice |
The Cistercian monastery at Cerinsko Sedlo, built around 1265, is an important part of the historical heritage of the region. It is located 100 meters above the Sava Plain and 150 meters below the site of St. Vid. The monastery was originally donated by the Duke of Carinthia, Ulrich Spanheim, along with all the estates in the village of Nieder Tzatesch. In the 15th century, the monastery also acquired the Parish of Čatež, further emphasizing its influence in the region.
Today, the monastery building, along with the Church of St. Michael, is unfortunately in a state of disrepair. Due to a lack of funds, religious services have ceased, and restoration work is urgently needed.
