Church of St. Maurice and Fortunatus, Krška Vas

The Church of St. Maurice and Fortunatus in Krška Vas is a valuable example of Gothic architecture, built in the early 16th century. It stands on a small hill in the center of the village and is first mentioned in 1581. Over the centuries, it has undergone several renovations, including the addition of a bell tower at the end of the 18th century. The church is distinctive for its star-vaulted chancel and the painted decorations from various periods.

The interior is adorned with 16th-century frescoes, including preserved fragments depicting saints such as St. Philip and St. James, as well as a scene of the Coronation of the Virgin Mary on the ceiling of the nave. Special attention is drawn to the Baroque altars dedicated to St. Maurice and Fortunatus, St. Barbara, and St. George.

The church represents an important example of medieval Gothic tradition in the Lower Carniola region and is recognized as a cultural monument of local significance due to its cultural, historical, and artistic value.
