Church of St. Leonard
| Address | Lenartova pot 30, 8250 Brežice |
The rectangular nave with a facade bell tower dates back to 1840, while the foundation of the heavily raised, three-arched chancel dates to the 15th century. Today, the altar features a restored statue of St. Leonard, while the former altar painting, a work by the Baroque master Anton Cebe, is kept in the Posavje Museum in Brežice.
Next to the Church of St. Leonard stands the Chapel of the Holy Sepulchre, dating from the mid-17th century. This chapel belongs to the IV type of so-called Jerusalem chapels. The external Stations of the Cross led from the Church of St. Roch or possibly from the former Franciscan church to the aforementioned chapel. Unfortunately, only two stone reliefs from the Stations near the Church of St. Roch have survived. These were recently embedded in the façade of the Church of St. Roch, and today they await potential reinstallation of the landmark that stood before 1960.
