Valvasor’s The Glory of the Duchy of Carniola, printed in Nuremberg in 1689, is an important source of information about Slovenia and western Croatia, including Istria. Surviving copies continue to raise many research questions, including those concerning the materials and production of this extensive encyclopaedic work.
In her lecture, Dr. Jedert Vodopivec Tomažič will present findings on the different bindings and types of paper used, including watermarks, texture, colour and browning. The research is based on copies examined in Slovenia, Croatia, Trieste, Gorizia, Budapest, London and Nuremberg. Copies held by the Posavje Museum Brežice and the Valvasor Library in Krško will also be on display. The lecture is part of the Researching Posavje series.
