Dobovski fašjenk (carnival)

Dobovski fašjenk is one of the most recognisable carnival events in this part of Slovenia, with roots reaching far into the past.

According to the oral tradition of the locals, carnival customs have been preserved since the time of their ancestors. Among the most characteristic carnival figures, the ‘kosec’ (mower) mask from the village of Loče and the ‘prutar’ from Veliki Obrež stand out. These traditional characters are not just part of the parade, but a living heritage passed down from generation to generation, preserving the identity of the local area.

More than just a carnival parade

Today, Dobovski fašjenk is a diverse cultural event that attracts numerous visitors every year. Carnival groups also spread their energy and creativity beyond their hometown, participating in international carnivals across Europe and thus presenting the tradition to a wider audience.

The importance of the event is also confirmed by its inclusion in the Federation of European Carnival Cities, which ranks Dobovski fašjenk among the more significant carnival events in Europe.
