On Sunday, 31 May, the Sava Connects event took place in the Brežice Hydroelectric Power Plant Park, organised by the Institute for Entrepreneurship, Tourism and Youth Brežice and HESS d.o.o. – Hydroelectric Power Plants on the Lower Sava River along the Sava River.
The event was organised on the occasion of International Sava River Day, celebrated on 1 June, with the aim of highlighting the importance of the Sava River, connecting the local community, and promoting a sustainable relationship with nature and the surrounding environment.
The free event offered visitors of all generations an active, educational, and entertaining day in nature. The programme began with a guided hike along the Aqua Flow Posavje trail and a guided cycling experience along the Sava River, both of which introduced participants to the natural and tourism highlights of the area. The guided tour of the Brežice Hydroelectric Power Plant also attracted great interest, giving visitors an insight into the operation of the power plant and the importance of renewable energy sources.
Visitors could also enjoy a culinary offer featuring local delicacies. The stands offered fish and game dishes prepared with ingredients originating from the waters of the Sava River basin and its riverbanks.
The morning programme was especially lively for families and children. The popular Ribič Pepe entertained the youngest visitors with a musical performance, while children also enjoyed creative workshops and face painting.
The event once again demonstrated the great potential of the area along the Sava River for the development of various activities that connect recreation, tourism, socialising, and quality leisure time for all generations. An important step in the further development of the area will also be Vila Envira, which is expected to open its doors to visitors in March 2027 and offer new experiences along the Sava River.
