The photo or the picture?

The exhibition "Photo or Picture?", by amateur photographer Karmen Kukovič, answers a frequently asked question at her exhibitions. The artist’s works are photographs with abstract motifs that resemble abstract paintings on canvas. She finds her motifs in banal, everyday objects, such as a paintbrush, a paint container, a facade scaffold, or cloths used by her mentor, art teacher Milan Lamovec - Didi, to wipe his brushes. Through this, she raises awareness that within the aesthetics of the ugly, a perfect abstract piece can be found, inviting viewers to pause and observe objects we often overlook. Two of these objects, which serve as the basis for two of the exhibited motifs, are included in the exhibition as exhibits.

Karmen Kukovič lives and creates in Slovenske Konjice. For her work and photographs, she received a gold award for participation in the 9th National Thematic Exhibition 2024, "The Fullness of Emptiness," organized by JSKD, as well as recognition from the Slovenske Konjice municipality at the Academy for the Slovenian Cultural Holiday in 2023 for her exceptional artistic achievements in theater acting, directing, and photography.
